The North Sea Beach
Bloemendaal & Zandvoort
The beautiful North Sea beach is only 7 kilometers away, just half an hour by bike. Bus and train also take you there in 15 minutes.
In any weather it is wonderfully relaxing to take a stroll on the beach and then have a drink / snack at a cozy beach bar. Or, if the weather is nice, spend a sunny day at the beach.
At ‘Bloemendaal aan Zee’ & ‘Zandvoort’ there are various beach pavilions, some are even open all year round.
National Park Zuid-Kennemerland
This Dune area stretches from ‘Zandvoort’ to ‘IJmuiden’. The ever-surprising landscape, from estates along the outer edge, through wild dunes to the North Sea beach, is the habitat of countless special animals and plants. Wonderful for walking (trails) and cycling.

Tickets are sold via www.keukenhof.nl. Tickets are only available online for a fixed date and time slot.
Beautiful flower fields near the Keukenhof can be admired from the end of March to the beginning of May. Ideal to visit via a bike ride. B&B Hotel Malts has 2 bicycles for rent.
Haarlem Canal Tours (April to October)
Join Haarlem Canal Tours with captain Jeroen for a canal trip in an open boat through Haarlem. The tour will take you along the city’s attractive waterways including the river Spaarne, Haarlem’s oldest canal the Bakenessergracht, the Singels and the majestic Nieuwe Gracht. This is a unique way to see the most beautiful buildings and monuments in Haarlem.
The maximum number of passengers per canal trip is 12. The groups are small so you get to experience Haarlem in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Every Saturday afternoon a guided city walk is organised from the Tourist Information office on the Grote Markt.

The Monumental Dome Prison of Haarlem, popularly known as ‘the Koepel’, is a former penal prison. Used till 2016 and now been converted into a total concept called De Koepel: a cinema, university, café, restaurant and workplaces!

Almshouses
Haarlem boasts 22 courtyards with almshouses. They are a reminder of days gone by. The were funed by wealthy citizens for poor unmarried women and widows who could live for free in these little houses around a landscaped inner courtyard. These city garden almshouses are still havens of tranquillity. Most of them, like the Almshouse Bakenesse founded in 1395, are open to the public (closed on Sundays).
