Culinary delight: Haarlem has 200 restaurants

Something for every taste — and every budget

Whether you’re in the mood for fine dining or just something simple and cozy, Haarlem has a wonderful selection of restaurants where you’re sure to enjoy a pleasant evening. Haarlem is known for its culinary and bourgondic lifestyle. Centuries ago, the people of Haarlem already understood good food. You’ll still see this reflected today in the wide variety of flavors and dining options in our historic city center.

Haarlem has everything you need for delightful shopping!

The low-traffic, historic city center is home to many exclusive shops, trendy clothing stores, charming antique and curiosity shops, and countless specialty boutiques in every imaginable category. The major shopping streets also host the most important (inter)national retail chains. This vast variety has earned Haarlem a place on the list of ‘Best shopping cities in the Netherlands’ several times. Haarlem is proud to be the most enjoyable and varied shopping city in the country.

Most shops are also open on Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00. On Thursday evenings, shops stay open until 21:00.

Clothing boutiques, interior & lifestyle shops

Are you looking for that one special shop, that not-so-ordinary spot where you can find something unique? Then take a stroll through De Gouden Straatjes, which includes our charming Zijlstraat. Guaranteed success!

The many independent shops located here range from artisanal workshops and concept stores to exclusive design stores and vintage shops. De Gouden Straatjes are located around the Grote Markt, the central square in the heart of the city.

Tip: Just around the corner from Hotel Malts you’ll find De Stijlloods, a high-quality second-hand clothing and lifestyle store. The concept: items are brought in on consignment by individuals and stay in the shop for two months. This keeps the collection fresh in a lovely, creative space. Check out their website stijlloods.com

Tip: On Koningstraat you’ll find ’t Kaaswinkeltje, where we get the tastiest cheeses for the breakfast buffet.

Tip: On Grote Houtstraat: The Art of Tea Herbs & Spices, a delightful shop full of herbs, spices, and tea.

Tip: The tastiest traditional Dutch liquorice and sweets: Het Dropje van Haarlem

Jopen Church

The Jopen Church, Haarlem’s pride… The former Jacob Church in the Raaks area is now a fully operational brewery, Grand Café, and restaurant. While enjoying a drink or dinner, you can witness the brewing process with your own eyes.

What began as an anniversary stunt has grown into the fastest-growing independent brewery in the Netherlands. With a history rooted in the city of Haarlem, but with a fresh outlook on a promising future.

Jopen has revived Haarlem’s brewing tradition and is once again brewing historic specialty beers. Many of the Jopen beers are still brewed with the three historical brewing grains: barley, oats, and wheat. This gives Jopen beers their own unique flavor.

Because you’ve got to eat something on a day like this. Here are a few lunch tips.
